This past weekend was a blur. When you have business and family obligations, they tend to veto any plans to lay around like a slouch. In other words, my regular Internet intake was cut down to almost zero. I did find some time between sets in the gym to see what this crazy world (Hello Hip-Hop) had been up to.
I found a common question that I ran across in a couple of forums. Is it safe to say that West Coast Hip-Hop is about to start running sh*t… Again?
Seems like it. A lot of my favorite rappers today, well, are all from the same coast. Schoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussell, and Dom Kennedy to name a few. Sure, we aren’t talking a Death Row Records like take over but it’s pretty close.
More important than it all, actual skill is involved. Thank you Lawd. I love it all. We’ve been stuck in this vortex of bum a$$, metro sexual, identity crisis, it’s all love, no hate, skill bankrupt rap stanza rapping a$$ ninjas. I’m saying. People are fed up. They want to be genuinely excited about Hip-Hop again.
I’m an East Coast dude, but I’ll ride with the west coast if it means we get actual Hip-Hop on the big stage. And not that Grammy stage either…
