So maybe my headline was a little dramatic but nevertheless, the MPC is a certified hip-hop instrument. Responsible for the production of endless hip-hop classics, MPC producers rejoice and get ready for the MPC X! A lot of the homies are already up on this one but here’s the low down: “The X is a…
If there is anything that we’ve learned from this last Presidential election, it’s the fact that words are just words when you used with ignorance to its definition. Every record, album, and mixtape that drops has a group of “branding police” waiting to label it classic. We’ve all seen it on social media. Jay Z…
Sometimes I get nostalgic and miss this era of rap. Kanye was crazy with the beats. Dipset was popping. One of my favorites right here. This week’s flashback is Cam’ron featuring Kanye West “Down & Out”.
Remember those Marvel versions of hip-hop album covers? Well, the first issue is available as of yesterday….and it’s FREE! Get it Here.
2015 is just about gone and it was a very dope year for hip-hop music! It seemed as if a lot of artist cared about their projects this year. You didn’t get a collection of singles. What we got were Albums/Mixtapes with cohesive concepts, dope beats, and thought provoking lyrics. It was hard to come up with just 5 but, THESE WERE THE BEST FOR THE YEAR 2015…
Look, this is Ice Cube’s best album. Hands down. This is an experience. An album that speaks to every young male in the hood. Racist? Naw. Reality? Yes. The beats, the rhymes, the concepts…the singles. One of my favorite songs from a classic album. This week’s throwback is Ice Cube’s “Steady Mobbin”.
Since Tribe is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album, it’s only right we take a look at the song that introduced me to them. More importantly the video. My first thought was wtf is this? A song about losing your wallet? As I watched more, the charm of the song/video grew on me. Classic group, classic video…This week’s throwback is A Tribe Called Quest’s “Left My Wallet in El Segundo”.
This song was a return to form for Common. A message to those who felt that he fell off with his last release “Electric Circus”. Ironically, he’d probably do better releasing that album today. “BE” was a dope album and this single was a monster. This week’s #TBT is Common’s “The Corner”.
With all the name dropping that appeared on his debut, you’d think he would be out the “game” by now. I wasn’t the biggest Game fan but this one goes…and The Documentary 2 is lit! This week’s Re-Release is The Game’s “Dreams”.
The best T.I. album (in my opinion). I wasn’t a fan of this song when it dropped but it grew on me over time. Since T.I.’s time with his label is up, it’s only right that we take a look back. This week’s throwback is T.I.’s “Rubber Band Man”.
With the recent passing of Ruck (aka Sean Price), it seemed appropriate to pay homage. This song and video was the first time I saw the skill and humor this dude possessed. Rest in Paradise bro. This week’s Re-Release is Heltah Skeltah’s “Operation Lockdown”.
While you wait for that new Dre, check out where it all began for him as a solo artist (Snoop Too). Classic! This week’s Re-Release is Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Doggy Dogg “Deep Cover”.
